Fillomino is a logic puzzle where you fill a grid with numbers so that each group of touching equal numbers has exactly as many cells as its number. This free fillomino puzzle runs in your browser, so you can play fillomino online without installing anything or creating an account.
Choose a size of 6×6, 8×8 or 10×10 and a difficulty of Easy, Medium or Hard. Each puzzle uses digits from 1 to 9, and some cells already hold a number. These fixed numbers are shown in bold. Every puzzle is checked to have exactly one solution, so you can always finish it by logic.
The tool works on computers, tablets and phones. Your progress and settings are saved in your browser, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off.

How to play Fillomino
- Choose a Size (6×6, 8×8 or 10×10; the default is 8×8) and a Difficulty above the board, then press New puzzle to generate a fresh one.
- Tap or click an empty cell to select it.
- Type a digit from 1 to 9 on your keyboard, or press a number on the pad under the board.
- To paint one number into several cells, drag from a filled cell across the cells you want to fill.
- Press Backspace or 0 to clear a cell. You can also use the Erase chip or right-click.
- Use the arrow keys to move the selection without clicking, then type the next digit.
- If you are stuck, press Hint. It highlights the cells involved and names the rule that proves the next step. Press Check to mark any cells that break a rule or differ from the solution in red.
- When the puzzle is solved, the page shows “Solved in m:ss” and offers Next puzzle.
Undo and Redo work with Ctrl+Z and Shift+Ctrl+Z (use Cmd on a Mac). Restart clears the board but keeps the same puzzle, and Show solution reveals the answer. Copy link gives you a link to this exact puzzle, so you can share it or continue on another device.
Puzzles you print here are free to use in class or in products you sell, such as Etsy printables or KDP books.
Fillomino rules
Fillomino is played on a grid where some cells already contain numbers. Fill every cell with a number so that each group of connected equal numbers, joined along the sides of cells, has exactly as many cells as its number. A group of 3s must have three cells, and a group of 1 is a single cell. Two groups of the same size can never touch along an edge, and a group may hold one given number, several, or none.
How to solve fillomino puzzles
Start with the easy clues. A 1 is finished at once, so each of its neighbours must be a different number. A 2 with only one free neighbour must grow into that neighbour. Numbers in corners have the fewest ways to grow, so they often reveal the answer early.
After that, the solver relies on six techniques:
- Merge: a cell cannot take a number that would join groups into more cells than that number allows. Next to a finished group of 3, a cell cannot be 3.
- Only: a cell with just one possible number left must hold that number.
- Room: a cell cannot be n if fewer than n cells that could be n connect to it.
- Exit: an unfinished group with only one free neighbour must grow into it.
- Squeeze: if an unfinished group can reach exactly the cells it needs, all of those cells take its number.
- Bridge: a cell that every way of completing a group must pass through belongs to that group.
What separates easy and hard fillomino puzzles
Easy puzzles can be solved with merge, only, room, exit and squeeze alone. Medium puzzles also need bridge. Hard puzzles need guess and check somewhere, meaning you test a number in a cell and follow it until a rule breaks. If a size cannot produce the level you asked for, the closest level is used and the puzzle title shows the real level.
Frequently asked questions
Is fillomino free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free. There is no account or sign-up, and nothing you do on the board is uploaded.
Can I play fillomino on a phone?
Yes, it works on phones and tablets. The chips above the board set what a tap does: Select or Erase. The Move chip lets you scroll a zoomed board, and Fit, the default, sizes the board to the screen width.
Can I print a fillomino puzzle?
Yes. Print opens the puzzle on its own page with its size, difficulty and rules. Tick “Print the answer page too” to add the solution on a second page, and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog if you want a file. A4 and Letter both work.
Does every fillomino puzzle have one solution?
Yes. Each puzzle is generated in your browser from a random seed and kept only when the site’s solver proves it has exactly one solution, so it can always be finished by logic.
Can I share a puzzle or continue it on another device?
Yes. Copy link copies a link with the size, seed and difficulty in it. It opens exactly the same puzzle, so you can send it to a friend or finish it on another device.
Can I sell the fillomino puzzles I print here?
Yes. Fillomino puzzles from this page are royalty-free for personal, classroom and commercial use, including puzzle books on Amazon KDP, printables on Etsy, Teachers Pay Teachers and Gumroad. No credit is required. The only thing you may not do is copy the generator or the site itself to run a competing service; see the terms.
